My opinion is that Catholicism is based on the mushroom cult. Still up in the air as to the origins of Yeshua's tale....

I think the mushroom cult idea is far more interesting than some failed Messiah getting executed.

Or a bunch of people were believing in apocalyptic prophecies to explain their shitty lives? Still works today.

Maybe they'd given up on the idea of getting a human Messiah who would drive the Romans out of Judea and decided they'd rather have a supernatural one instead. You can't fail with a Messiah who refuses to stay dead.

All those beliefs about loving one's neighbour etc. went out of the window when the Roman faction got into power, though.
