The hook of religion is never about respect for material facts but about protecting a comforting sense of "we know better than smarter and more incisive people" amongst the stupid.
If entity with some attribute now attributed to some god turns out to be a material fact, you can bet existing religions won't give a shit about those facts and would go on sprouting their own interpreations of bullshit handed down to them from before the discovery just like they've done since age immemorial. The reason is simply that if such "god" is an material fact, then it would be the smart and incisive people who would likely come to command these facts. Those would not be the religious people, so the religious people would stick to whatever continues to give them the sense of "we know better than smarter and more incisive people".
