Darn, beaten by Nap again. No wonder he got the Austrians to surrender at Ulm. Anyway, we know how dangerous our local neighbourhood can be. We also know how fragile our ecosystem is and how tenuous species' grip on existence can be - consider that something like 99% of all species ever to exist have died out as a result of multiple mass extinction events. The KT asteroid was just one of them and we are the first species (presumably) to recognise the connection and to learn from it. To this end, all data is useful. True, we can't eat it, sell it or have sex with it, but knowing the exact circumstances of these sort of events might just come in handy one day.
