Love is not an illusion in that it doesn't exist. The security that comes with love, the mutual caring-- the things which make love meaningful--are illusory because they're determined entirely by random variables beyond human control which have no loyalty to anyone.
In effect, the momentary feeling is real, but the popular concept is worthless.
Good thing then that we're in the relationship for companionship and not passion. Besides, playing Borderlands 2 with your significant others makes sure that you get your cocktail of love-inducing hormones.
