Is it true that Theists are never rational and Atheists are never irrational?
Welcome aboard.
Most atheists have come to the disbelief in the existence of gods based on skepticism. Most atheists are also skeptical about other supernatural claims besides the existence of gods.
Skepticism by definition, encompasses rational thinking.
There are some atheists that irrationally believe in some ridiculous things. I have a friend that is completely rational in his reasons for not believing in gods, yet he believes UFOs are alien in origin, and that alien abductions are real.
On the other hand, there are theists that are rational with regards to many other supernatural claims. But not when it comes to their religious beliefs. They compartmentalize those beliefs in a special part of their mind that is immune to rational, skeptical examination.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
