Let me start with stating that my core position is that I care if my beliefs are true, or at least likely to be true.
The most reliable and consistent method to assure the above is to base beliefs on demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument, and valid and sound logic.
If someone makes a claim, and it is not supported by the above criteria, I do not believe their claim.
My atheism is a provisional position. As long as there continues to be insufficient demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument, and valid and sound logic to support the claim that a god exists, my atheism will continue.
Faith is not a path to knowledge. Faith is the noises that theists make when they do not have good reasons for their beliefs.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
