Actually a real evolutionist doing a paper with that title would be excellent. I've come up with a few things in my alien life speculations that are intriguing at least. All endoskeleton species like us have four limbs and cannot evolve more limbs.* There is nothing to modify into extra limbs.
I'd like to see that explored (or debunked) by the pros as well as the more interesting things from their point of view.
* Therefore if the 'first in our line' fish to leave had had six limbs it would have been much easier to evolve two separate limbs for tool usage rather than needing to evolve bipedalism first. Thus intelligence might have evolved earlier. Thus alien species are most like to have 6 or more limbs. It will definitely be a challenge for Hollywood to makes the sets and the makeup.
