I've heard 'free will' often described as 'freedom to not do what god wants'. It seems to me that freedom and love (in the sense that slavish devotion is love) are mutually-exclusive in God's eyes. Either you love him and do what he tells you, or you enjoy the freedom to live for yourself (in the process not loving God).
You're hung up on the dogma Ryan.
Oh yeah love is awful and we should all fight for freedom from it.
You have the choice to love and be loved. If you don't choose that, then you choose to restrict your life and live in self imposed torture.
I am not slavishly devoted to anything. I freely choose to embrace it and deny it at every moment. It couldn't be love if I didn't have that choice now could it?
You have the potential to embrace or deny what's good and bad for you at every moment too. I would call that living in tune with God and living out of tune with God. If you choose to embrace good where I don't then you will be in heaven and I'll be in hell.
