To the example of the unicorn
It seems like you know alot of things, and that you have a reasonable expectation of things based upon that knowledge. Like you mention a little further down - but obviously directed in a slightly different way- when asked how I can know about gods (and having the same question simultaneously left unasked about cars and keys) I say "why bother" to differentiate? Why place the gods in one category and my cars operation in another? As to the suggestion that we should be agnostic about everything...should we then be agnostic about whether or not we should be agnostic about everything -ad infinitum? I'd say that's probably one reason why we don't live our lives that way - it's unworkable. I would say that a person could refer to whatever they wanted as a god, even a gym sock - but what is that supposed to establish, what does that mean?
I suppose I take a different route, and ask them to find a place to -begin- the argument, rather than repeating all the same tired shit. A definition for an entity - removed from any example of that entity beyond the narrative (in this case the narrative being a discussion), is no different from a character like Dracula, Beowulf, or Tyler Durden..(it;s not enough) which amusingly, is already how I define gods.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
