He's very well-known from Usenet back in the 1990's, I can attest to that personally. He's infamous enough to have had at least one newsgroup created in his dishonor: alt.bonehead.matt-giwer - and his antics were frequently featured on news.admin.net-abuse.misc and alt.usenet.kooks (I was a Usenet administrator in the 1990's)
He claims that the abusive / trolling / spamming posts in his name were all forgeries. I personally do not believe him (I could probably prove it if I had access to a Usenet news spool from that era, sadly, I do not).
