Sure, maybe to that person it matters. But it's illegal to discriminate against someone for religion, except, a religious job like priest, obviously. So hence, it should never even come up.
Of course, as Dotard explained, just because it's illegal doesn't mean it doesn't happen and it's hard to pursue a case without hard evidence.
In the end it's completely unfair to put someone in a position to declare their religion or lack of religion before having a job accepted, regardless to how you respond to the answer of atheist. A person should be hired based on his credentials such as experience and recommendations that build a reputation related to his work only.
