When I met my husband he was going threw a divorce and had custody of his 2 year old son because the vessel (aka birth mother) was an alcoholic at the time, but later switched to heroin. He ended up with full custody and she got pretty much nothing. I married my husband a couple years later then had a baby and we raised the two children as ours. We kept my husbands son away from his vessel for years because of her addiction and problems with the law. When he was 12 years old the vessel surfaced. We thought that it would be a good idea to permanently remover her parental rights to protect him so we went to a lawyer and started adoption proceedings. In the final papers it was stated that we are of Caucasian race and Christian religion. We asked the lawyer why she put the Christian thing in there and told her we are not Christians. She told us that it was better to leave that in there. The adoption would go threw easier if we just said we were Christian than if we didn't. So we left it in there and lied in a court of law so I we could protect our son. Even a judge in a court of law cares if you're a Christian or not. It's not right, but what are you gonna do?
