Relevent happening update;
Yesterday I get a call from an individual. He says *****(<--censored for legal reasons) company came to his home to troubleshoot his heat-pump. Gave him an estimate of 856 dollars to repair it. Claimed it was an undersized metering device that needed replacement. He wanted a second opinion.
This ***** company pushes the whole "Christian" thing. Fish all over their trucks, ads and buisness cards and invoices. Sign on the truck says "Christian family owned since 1972".
I bet you all know where this is going.
I arrive at the home, he shows me their estimate. They charged this man $125 to come out and tell him a lie. I do my thing and all the problem was is a faulty thermostat. $79 for me to come out and tell him what was wrong, an additional $99 for me to replace the thermostat. $178 total.
The man flipped. Gave me $200 (in between his cartwheels and jig dances) and told me to keep the change. He was fussing that ***** advertises their "Christianism" and then "pulls shit like that", then comments on my honesty. Without thinking I blurted out, "Well, I'm not a christian."
The man hit the floor laughing. Turned out he was 'one of us'. A non-believer.
Before the day was up I get a call from ***** company. It was their field tech supervisor.
"I understand you took care of Mr. **** at (address) today."
"Yes sir I did."
"We received a call from him. He was very upset at us for our estimate."
"I don't blame him, you would be too if someone was attempting to do that to your mother or grandpa."
"Can you tell me what you found and what repairs you did?"
"Nope, if I did that then your customers wouldn't need to call me to save themselves over $650 and culminate me additional buisness in that neighborhood. Sorry. Oh, and really, if you're going to go with that whole "Christian" angle thing, you really ought to try to keep your dishonesty minimal."
(You could hear crickets chirping for the silence) "Anything else I could do to help you?" I ask.
Little silence, then he asked "Would you like to come work for us?"
"No. I'm not an employee. If you would like, I'll be happy to sub-contract for you, but I don't do the employee thing. Also, I'm not a christian."
"Oh." and silence again.
" 'K, Thanks for calling, you have my number if you wish to use me, give me a call. Bye."
And I chuckled to myself.

I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.
