So, what exactly happens when we die? I don't mean what you might conjecture, but what really happens?
There are two accounts of the experience of death that the bible describes. One Jesus says we 'sleep.' Meaning we are in a spiritual stasis until we are re awaken. This this reawaking (from the matrix as one of the other members put it) will be known as the resurection. In 2 cor Paul tells us when we are absent from the body we are present with The Lord. So which is true? Do we sleep till the resurection like Jesus says? Or are we transported there like Paul says? "I think maybe it is a little of both.. Maybe the same thing is happening at the same time." -forest gump.
From God eternally conscious perspective we are silent from the time of our death till our resurection/judgement. And from our perspective, when our bodies die so too do our internal clocks, and we have no concept of time. So whether it be 1 second or a billizion more years it will seem like an instant. We close our eyes in this life to "awaken from the matrix" in the next.
So what happened to Jesus when he died? The same thing that happens to us. We close our eyes in this life and awaken in the next. When He awoke He still had work to do here in this life so He awoke back in this life, but when we will awake we have been told this life, the reign of man will be over. But either way. We are born appointed a span to live, then we die to awake to the resurection and final judgement.

And I just proved Allah exists :-)
