When I say "I don't care," I generally don't mean I have an apathy towards something, I tend to mean that I don't care for it, that I do not want it, that I do not appreciate it, etc.
Honestly, I don't dislike Dan, I feel bad for him, to be honest. I think that you are right, Vae: I think he's displaying all that as a means of assuring himself but I can't ignore the fact that at the same time that if something happens and he goes into a psychotic episode, my life and that of my room-mate [who despite my grumbling happens to actually be my best friend of ten years, as well] could very well be in danger. I'm probably going to speak to the apartment people. I'm not going to ask they cancel his lease, but I AM going to ask that they find a way to deny him a renewal, so that he'll be able to find somewhere else to live, hopefully with his parents, because they need to help him. The man is 41, and is clearly suffering. I'll also ask that the apartment people take into consideration his mental illness in the event of any permanent damage to the room.
I'm still hoping someone can give me some advice towards getting him to seek treatment...but something tells me I'm gonna be SOL there.
