I saw it last Sunday. While my interpretation doesn't exactly match yours, I did find the character development to be sorely lacking. The action sequences were reasonably well-done, but I thought too drawn-out, resulting in a too-long movie.

I am not a huge fan of the Superman franchise, but I suspect that non-fans will like it a lot better than fans.
