The military will be the last government organization to secularize. And it won't do it for a long time, I promise.
My brother's a US Army Ranger, a Captain to boot, and made the mistake of letting it be openly known that he is, in fact, an atheist. Countless citations for bravery, honor, and courage, tens of letters of commendation, a silver star, a bronze star, a purple heart with six oak laurels [essentially seven purple hearts], and a standing referral for the Congressional Medal of Honor [which he has fought against receiving ("Lay it on my neck before they cremate me," he says half-jokingly) for personal reasons] Wiki: ...all ignored in the face of him being an atheist, thus leading to him constantly being sidelined for promotion and even instigating his demotion from Lt. Colonel all the way down to Captain. The reason given was that he was unfit for that level of command because he was seeking assistance for PTSD. The real reason is the brass just doesn't like him and him being an atheist is one reason for it. Gays are treated with more respect in the military than atheists, I shit you not. You can literally be a highly decorated SOCOM officer with a service record made of gold, silver, brass and bronze, and be sidelined entirely based on your religious belief...or rather, lack thereof.
