Why do animals go extinct?

Why do animals go extinct?
Just a thought that popped into my head and I would like a theists explanation of this.
God is all powerful right? and all knowing? So why would he create imperfect animals that go extinct? Could he not have seen into the future and seen which animals had flaws that would be fatal? Could he not have just not made the imperfect animals in the first place.

Another quick question. I have heard some theist opinions on global warming and world threatening crises like these. They claim that god wouldn't allow the earth to be destroyed. But if thats true, why does he allow animal species to die? This reduces the biodiversity of the food chain and could ultimately contribute to the destruction of life on this planet (that is if an asteroid or radiation from a gamma ray burster doesn't get us first)

Not trying to score points here, just interested in theists thoughts.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom
