I'm a former Muslim and was raised in a very conservative Salafi household, so let's must boil it down to two things:
1. Women gen 1/2 of what a man gets in inheritance.
2. The testimony of 2 women equal of that of one man.
AFAIK, that's pretty much all the "1/2" stuff in Islam as far as Men and Women go. Now there are more horrible stuff that usually westerners have no idea about because they are buried within Sunnah (and not necessarily Quran).
For example, how many know that in Islam, hell is primary filled with women? why? For many reasons, but again primarily because they are ungrateful to their husbands!
This particular hadeeth was actually one of the first to make me become skeptic because of the very obvious injustice. There is another hadeeth that includes additional reasons such as cursing. But why women curse more than men? If all created with equal mental capabilities, then the cursing between men and women should be about equal. On the other hand, if women curse more, this means that it is inherit in their nature, and you can't design something with a flaw only to punish it later!
