Human beings also have a dangerous tendency to choke on food: this has something to do with the fact that, in the back of our throats, the passage that air follows to get to the lungs actually crosses the path that food follows to get to the stomach. This would be an example of a really stupid (or perversely sadistic) design if a god had actually designed it that way.
The book goes on to say the reason our windpipes and throats are set up the way they are is because our distant ancestors were sea creatures who eventually reproduced and grew to live on land. This feature, like everything in human anatomy, comes from the evolution of our bodies.
You should really be careful about posting things you know nothing about and posting things from people you think know what they are talking about.
First of all less than 3000 people die every year from chocking in the U.S. every year that includes children. Children are more likely to choke on things that were not around a couple hundred years ago, balloons, small toy parts, gel and gummy candies are some of the major contributors of child deaths. The percentage of people chocking to death each year is 0.00001. Over 400,000 people die every year in the U.S. from smoking related illness. Now speaking of smoking, wouldn't one look stupid with a cigarette hanging out of a nostril, one couldn't leave it there long the smoke would burn one's eyes and only people with big noses could smoke cigars.
Now to some important things, one could not cough to clear the lungs the sinuses would not allow this, they would become stopped up and flood the air passage and one would suffocate. One could nor have mouth to mouth to help some one breath or aid in clearing water from the lungs.
You would not be able to taste much at all, most taste comes from that passage way from the throat to the sinuses, one could die of eating bad and spoiled foods. If you think I'm lying get two glasses fill one with water and the other with orange juice, close your eyes and have a friend hand you a glass pinch off your nose and drink, then drink the other glass the same way, no breath in between, then guess which was the orange juice before you breath. Without the passage between the throat and air passage one could not use a benny pot to clean the sinuses. I'm sure that's not the correct spelling.
You could not talk, nor yawn, no whistling either. Next time research or even think for a moment might help.
It would be a galactic pandemonium to believe your taste experiment.
Not only would You be able to tell which cup was orange juice, You also exposed a misunderstanding of taste.
If You plug your nose and eat something You cannot smell the flavour but still be able to taste the texture (sweet, salty, bitter, sour). Taste is not the "flavour of orange". Taste is the "acidic (and sweet) taste of orange". So, false. You would be able to differentiate water from orange juice.
So did You even try YOUR OWN experiment? Or did memory not serve You?
