Exactly. Even if there were scores of people out there clamoring for the right to marry animals, it doesn't make gay marriage wrong and shouldn't infringe upon the rights of gay people to get married.

Exactly. The reason they are against gay marriage is because if gay marriage is legal, then it grants more legitimacy to homosexuality, and the homophobes can't allow that to happen. That, and the fact that conservatives realize they're losing their power grip on society. What they don't seem to realize is that keeping gay marriage illegal is not going to make gay people stop being gay. They seem to think that there's still a chance they'll be able to force gays back into the closet, but if gay marriage is allowed then there's no chance of that at all.
