1. If we didn't bother, then Gods plan for us would have been not to bother.
If we don't ask, then God wouldn't need to respond. From our (time limited) perspective, God is continuously managing the universe.
He makes us worthy. We aren't worthy by our own efforts.
2. We need to tell him for ourselves. It builds us up.
If we didn't need to express it, we wouldn't feel it. We do feel it, hence the need to express it.
I've always been of the opinion that if you talk to your god, it shows that you have religious beliefs. If god talks back, you might be in need of a straight jacket.
