Anyway, I think the Christians on this Thread have made some pretty good points about why prayer is important, though I agree with BWS that the icky feeling sucks when people tell me that they'll pray for me. (As a Mormon, I get this a lot from other religions.)
I think the point of prayer is only what you make of it. "Ask and ye shall receive". It's simple if you use faith. God will mete out to you what he desires to give you. He's fickle like that, as is his prerogative. If a person starts a prayer and doesn't expect much, he won't receive much.
Prayer is useful if one actually makes use of it.
You should read what I said about prayer before telling me how to use prayer. As for my retorts to our atheist friends, it's all they notice or listen to.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
