I think this paragraph sums up the Christian mindset quite well. Women are responsible for ensuring good Christian men don't have to live surrounded by temptation. He might as well be advocating that women wear burkas, as the thought process behind that is the same.
I think deep down he fears women having power over men.
Exactly. The sheer arrogance, as if women exist just for men and should cover up so they don't have to feel uncomfortable.
