You have no idea how the government works as most people do not. Paying the bills/workers should not be a held hostage. Yes, this can effect those government programs, as they are at the Federal Level. The largest employer (it always been the largest) in the United States is the government, and that will never change, even tho Republicans want to change it for profits to private companies (cheapest and profits does always produce the best results). The government has vast requirements to help, promote, and protect the citizens and interest.
I'm sorry, but anyone keeping up with the problems that government employee unions have wreaked on governments at all levels won't have sympathy with this. When I looked for my first job out of college 24 years ago, private sector had the best pay and bennies, and government had the best security. In 2013, government employees typically out pace private sector in pay, benefits, and security. Plus, the private sector was and is still taking the biggest hit for the recession.
This is how I see it: if you are or were a government employee, your management are the elected officials. If management fucks up at a private company, unfortunately the employees suffer. So if the elected officials fuck up, why should you not feel the pain of poor management of your supervisors?
I get it. Nobody wants to feel any of the pain, and it sucks. But we all elected each one of these assholes and all we do is complain on forums about it. They don't read the fucking forums.
