They might be getting paid... But commissaries are closed on bases in the US. That's where many military families get their food and supplies. Also, military personnel will be treated at on-base medical facilities, but their families won't. Isn't that just a wonderful way of thanking them for their service? You get paid, but you have to go elsewhere to get food and medical attention for your sick wife and/or kids! And they wouldn't even be getting paid if Obama hadn't signed an order for that to happen.
Unlike Cato, I don't think you're part of the problem. However AAFES(commissary) is still open and unless things have changed since my time in uniform, military dependents have access to military medical staff.
A shutdown is still bullshit, even if evidence of areas still unaffected abound. The republican'ts own the lion's share on this.
