People have various different ideas regarding God the ultimate nature of reality, atheists included. Here in the Europe the competition is mainly from atheism and possibly Islam though they're not really gaining that many European followers by conversion but through reproduction. So atheism is the major player and certainly an ideology to be reckoned with. A lot of atheists were once far more devout in their faith than I am in mine which is something I'm bearing in mind. But I treat it as a rival religious belief that can reap it's fair harvest of souls. It does have some plus points atheists are rarely ever homophobic for instance, politically they tend to be on the left which I like, it's all about community and care for the less fortunate members of society, and they're right to be skeptical of fake psychics, mediums and con-men.

If you look at what religion or the sacred texts actually teach it's quite the opposite. Of course a lot of believers don't really follow through on these teachings and use their religion as an excuse to further their own ends, Jesus himself predicted that would happen. Atheists generally make the best converts for the flock once they come to know the reality of a loving God. Though anyone who has been 100% secularized you may as well try and interest them in fairies than Jesus so they're well beyond reach. Though there aren't that many atheists like that on here from what I can tell.
Come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant.
