I went to a panel discussion on aging and sexuality on Saturday and one of the repeated comments was how much things had improved from the ignorance, fear, and general sexual confusion that existed prior to Kinsey and Masters & Johnson. Science has definitely had an impact on love, from understanding sexual development, therapy for relationship and sexual issues, reproductive technologies like fertility treatments, the pill, viagra, and family planning, to a greater understanding of the causes and transmission of STDs, including HIV. Science has made a big impact on love and sex.
(ETA: There has also been a sea change in attitudes towards, treatment of, and bigotry and prejudice towards LGBT people in the wake of these scientists' work and others. Life for LGBT people would be immensely different if not for science, including both psychologically and in terms of quality of life, and the toll from minority stress from being LGBT would on the whole be much higher in terms of illness, disease, and costs to society.)
