According to (at least) 4 major religions, and a few discerning intellects in antiquity (Buddhism, Hinduism and Judeo/Christianity) the world (reality as the common man knows it) is one gigantic flim-flam of global theatrical proportion. Everything is ultimately meaningless, transient, and impermanent. Who, truly, cares about an imaginary devils truth content?
In case you haven't noticed, there are quite a few humans that care too much about it, enough to taint their judgement. Take homossexuality for an example: Would being homosexual so much veiled as evil, wicked, an abomination and people felt justified in believing so, if some religious beliefs never existed?
It seems that the, "quite a few" are, according to the aforementioned religions, unwitting pawns in the universe's biggest shell game. Apparently, some people have to be deceived to make the illusion (of life) work, so to speak.
