The main problem is a lack of understanding on the unbelievers part.
There are no abstract thinkers here. Only logical ones. And that's what it takes in the first step towards God.
My wife, and others I know who are very religious, are also very logical thinkers. They have to constantly be reinforced in their faith. It's hard for them at times. Their logical brain is always analyzing and trying to justify their faith!
Abstract thinkers on the other hand have an easier time accepting their faith as something "real". And their struggles are much less than a logical thinker.
I've been able to see this "concept" at work in my own family. And there is something to this.
