"Why is this organization needed in Kansas City?
As atheists, we are a minority in this area, and the greater portion of the population still sees us as the misanthropic caricature commonly portrayed in pop culture. We’re changing that. As we work for awareness and acceptance, we’re also fighting the perception that this is a Christian nation and all that entails..
There isn't anything about a primary goal of helping as many people as possible. Quite the opposite, seems like they just want to help the atheist "image" and proselytize against Christianity.
Your turn.
Catfish, here's the thing, though: these guys aren't a charitable organization. They're an atheist organization, designed to be a safe place for atheists, and to improve the image of atheists. Just like any other minority group, their concern is outreach and... you know, factual accuracy where the cultural image of their group is concerned.
You might have had a point if this was specifically a charitable organization and they had that on their faq, because then there really would be a conflict between their stated purpose and their actual goals. But these guys aren't a charity, they're an atheist group. There's no conflict here, no dishonesty; they do the charity work because they want to, because it helps. You can't reach into their heads and determine their motives, so stop being dishonest.
Oh, and just by the way: fighting against the inaccurate idea that America is a christian nation is not the same as proselytizing against christianity, so quit with the histrionics, okay?
