If "the god" Does not exist then whether or not he is a bigot is defined by what Christians believe him to be.The concept I speak of is that a [god] exists at all, and that said god, if the biblical one, is not a malevolent bigot despite its ferocious exploits.
You speak of the concept Christians have of God. But is this a simple concept? Do Christians, from nazis to wbc to the amish have the same concept of God? Because if so, He might be a bigot. But if their views are different then they might also be different.
Jacob(smooth) Wrote:Here's one. The actions of God in the OT are genocidal. Is it thus accurate to say that since Christians follow that God that all Christians are genocidal? He is also described as jealous, does that mean ALL Christians are jealous?Quid pro quo - yes.
The God described in the bible is also described as loving and merciful. That's mutually exclusive with him being hateful and genocidal. Which contradiction, of course, is one of the Dissonances within Christianity.
God might be able to pull off being merciless AND merciful, but people are not so clever. If Christians exhibit the characteristics of God, how can we (I) be bothered merciless and merciful, and all the other contradictory things written about God?
