Because I know muslims are often taught not to marry nonmuslims, where is this coming from if we're all equal?
You can easly find this verses after a little research .
4:135 "...stand with justice as witnesses to God, even if against yourselves..."
7:181 "From among those We created is a community who guides with truth, and with it they establish justice"
5:42 "...God loves those who are equitable..."
5:8 "...stand for God as witnesses for justice, and let not the hatred towards a people make you avoid being just..."
10:47 "...the matter is decreed between them with justice, and they are not wronged..."
7:29 "...my Lord orders justice..."
42:15 ".....I was commanded to apply justice between you...."
60:8 ".....God loves those who act equitably...."

Allah prohibits to marry with "mushriks" , not non-muslims . Please look at the Lisan-ul Arab dictionary for the meaning of "mushrik" .
Allah wants equality for justice . Allowing people to marry with each other is equality , but allowing two diametrically opposed minded people to marry each other is not justice . in the long run will cause many problems and social disruption .
