Quote:We're all in a fantasy world, that private little space between our ears. To quote Milton, "The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”. We will never know reality other than what our sensory apparatus and cognitive process can derive. I find life is much easier when you learn the trick of remoulding the matrix as you see fit.
This is very true. You can change your emotions and mood amazingly by looking at things in a positive way and it leads to a more positive outcome because your productivity and motivations are improved.
But doesn't religion put you in a worse reality to begin with? I mean you were going to put this in the banning burka thread, so I'll use that as example. Religion puts them in the situation where they are in a burka but it allows them to feel ok about it. But if religion wasn't there, they don't have to hide themselves and they'll feel ok with that too. And I mentioned in the burka thread that the niqab is not just about religion it affects how you make friends, get jobs and so on because it hides your face, I have a friend who used to have to wear that and she said it was almost impossible to make friends, people cannot tell who you are. That has to affect people somehow, even if the religion allows them to be at peace with the difficulties they have to face.
