Even the oldest muslim scholars had translated this sentence as "period" . This is not a new translation . We dont have any information about that this periods corresponds to a period of equal length with one another. There are different interpretations about this verse.

I want you to show me a single human text or paper that says bla bla bla this building project was created in 6 steps. AND THEN STOPS, without giving the steps. When you would read that paper you would think, well, what are the steps? Did this guy run out of printer ink? Did he have a bathroom urgency and forgot about them? What lunatic would write that and not list the steps or periods? Is God a lunatic? Is God an idiot, with Alzheimer, that, whenever he writes something he forgets about it before finishing it? No. It's because it wasn't PERIODS, it was DAYS. So God had given a CONCRETE answer and stopped there. Who are you to put words in Gods mouth, if God says 6 days it's 6 days. You call Allah the most gracious, most merciful well guess what, in here, I call him Allah the most precise! ALLAH, THE MOST PRECISE! And for him to be precise, he had to say days and YOU KNOW IT.

Can Allah be the least precise? Have you read your Qur'an? To address Allah, you have to use:

1) Unique attribute eg. "the most"
2) Praising adjective, eg. merciful, gracious, precise.

It's Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful, the most precise. If you say that Allah wrote 6 periods and left it there, you're saying he's Allah the fuckall, the guy who doesn't know WHAT he's talking about. You CANNOT SAY THAT!
