There could, perhaps, be moments where God is portrayed in that sense and so comes away from a particular story looking quite nasty, but upon closer inspection, and with the right eye, there is a much more simple answer to be given.
Can you acknowledge just one time when you think this supposedly higher intelligence couldn't have found a better solution to the problem in his supposedly infinite mind rather than mass murder or eternal torture in Hell?
It's futile trying to defend such a monster and then portray him as benevolent. I should know. I tried to do just that. Back when I was a fundamental Christian there were acts committed and atrocities that even I found hard to swallow, like in Kings, when he sent two bears to kill children just for making fun of Elisha's bald head. I daren't speak of these passages whenever boasting from my soap-box of his apparent 'cosmic loving nature' because they were simply inexcusable – my god concept was one that advocated child murder, infanticide and child abuse.
I've yet to read that story, or passage, so I can't comment on what it might mean. Not yet. But I wont shy away from it once I get there, because I know there are some things that look very hard to swallow- at first glance.
Quote:Now onto this God's 'Gift of Life', I don't know about you, but I was conceived by my mother, ask my parents and they can assure you that no mafia boss in the sky gave me anything.Oh, come on, you know what I mean. Your parents conceived you, gave birth to you, but it is because of God that you weren't born into a complete blank void.
Quote:Are you trying to argue that not all babies are born equally? That some are biological shells and others have an immortal soul courtesy of magic man?...No? I don't see where I ever indicated this at all, either.
Quote:nope god dose not like Suicide.... but he loves him some sacrifices... animals ... children.... A little tabasco and a bud light and it's a party... and a good stoning... now thats entertainment... The more I think about it gods LOVE sounds less like love and more like CONTEMPT.
I do't recall ever saying God liked stonings or sacrifices? Excuse me? I don't know about you but the more I look around and see how much of a life we've been given and see all the amazing, wonderful things there are to connect to and explore, I get the idea that someone must have loved us alot to give all of this to us.
