The Supreme Court has said a religion need not be based on a belief in the existence of a supreme being. In the 1961 case of Torcaso v. Watkins, the court described “secular humanism” as a religion.

So? Can I bring out quotations that state atheism isn't a religion (because it demonstrably isn't)?
"Atheism isn't a religion - It's a lack of belief in a deity or deities" - Me. There are dogmas, no tenants, no collective belief. There is only one stance - lack of belief in a deity (expanded beyond this would be anti-theists etc):
Secular Humanism is NOT a religion either. Secularism is a political stance on the correct position of legitimate sovereignty over state structures - ie, initially removing input from the pope over the political and religious matters of a sovereign state which has since evolved to create a neutral (ie, non-biased) sphere for decision makers regarding religion and religious beliefs.
How this can be related to either a religion or humanism escapes me.
Perhaps you could point out to me in the 1648 treaty of Westphalia where the reformist protestants wanted to start, by definition of what secularism actually is, a "political religion" [????]?
