Maybe...
I was thinking about irrelevant issues, about how disapproval of one thing seems to invite general moralization... I tried to watch the show, but I found it totally boring and completely unrealistic. And since I used to smoke a boatload of meth...
Oh, I agree with you, I see that sort of bootstrapping all over this forum. The 'Church' thread is a good example. Someone says they dislike using the word, 'church,' to describe gatherings of atheists, and that is immediately bootstrapped into, "Oh, you don't think atheists should gather, huh? HUH??" It's pretty funny.
As someone who worked in the criminal justice system for 14 years, I agree with you -- it is not realistic in any way to the actual production or sale of meth. There is nothing sexy or wonderful about that world, not in any way. But we all watch fictional entertainment programs for a lot of different reasons, and obviously few of those have anything to do with reality. Otherwise, no explanation for the popularity of such programs as Walking Dead (I've never seen it) or any of the vampire stuff (I also don't care for/watch).
I wasn't drawn in because it was realistic. But I enjoyed watching how over-the-top they could get with the unintended consequences dealio, and I liked the characters, all flawed in their own ways.
