I keep hearing that its the same as yelling fire in a crowded theater. Its not! The reason yelling fire in a crowded theater is illegal is because people will trample others trying to escape. Unless racial slurs start causing frequent stampedes they are in no way similar.
And hateful language as verbal violence are you fucking kidding me?!? Don't try and sell me on no bullshit like that. I'll tell you what if you're willing to test your theory, how about you call me a slur (I'm Irish and Italian if you want to prepare) and I'll deck you in the face, and we can see who hurts more after.
Why stop at racial slurs too? I mean if hateful speech is a punch in the face, than calling someone a douchebag has gotta be a slap. And we don't let people slap each other. Eventually you widdle your way down to where mere disagreement results in breaking the law.
The only way to keep free speech safe is to keep it free.
