Oh, I agree. I just find that, depending on the intensity and longevity of the kink play, it sometimes tends to leach into how the partners interact outside of that. I'm not saying, like, wearing a collar around all the time or anything like that, but there are subtle signs and references that can be misconstrued, and the "bdsm is abuse" stereotype is still out there.
