Great, another fallacy. Argumentum ad populum.
Are you trying for the biggest logic fail of 2014? You have a great start.
Quote:Now it isnt just Christians Jews and Muslims that believe in God. I've also heard hindus, buddhists, new agers, Diests, and other religions speak of God.
It only matters if they can support their beliefs with demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument and valid/sound logic.
If not, they are all making unsupported assertions. And the number of people that make the assertion does not add any validity to them.
Quote:Some Scientists refer to "God" or "acts of God" for that which cannot be medically or scientifically explained (including miracles).
Nope. Not even close. If a scientist appeals to magic, they are not doing science.
Science only concerns the natural universe.
Quote:So the word God is a very vague term. If you add Catholics, Protestants, Non denoms, Muslims, and Jews, that is more than half the world's population.
These are the monotheistic "people of the book", but there are countless millions of believers in God who are not people of the book
Hindus make up another nearly 1/6 of the worlds population. Anyhow, the vast majority of the World believes in God and so I think they should have as much credibility as those who know with certainty that God doesnt exist.
Still a logical fallacy, no matter how many times you repeat it.
At one time the vast majority of humanity believed the earth was flat and the sun orbited the earth.
How did that popular belief work out for the believers?
Quote:Since you cant know with certainty that all those billions of "superstitious fools" are erroneous morons, why be so militantly against the idea of God?
Because people's beliefs don't live in a vacuum.
Wars are started, slavery is justified, oppressing minorities is justified, forced female genital mutilation is performed, pseudoscience is taught in public schools, etc, etc all in the name of one or another of these god beliefs.
And not a single one can support their beliefs with evidence or reasoned argument.
I'm not militant toward the 'idea of god', only what the believers do with those beliefs.

I missed this one the first time around.
The vast majority of atheists do not make he claim, with absolute certainty, that a god does not exist. That is not atheism.
Atheism in general, is the lack of belief in a god or gods. There is no claim, necessarily, that a god does not exist.
SOME atheists may make the claim that no god exists, but I don't think they are the majority.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
