The houses are typically 7 feet apart in suburbs so you share a fence with someone. So, if your neighbors decide to use their backyard as dump, you'll smell it all the time. It's not like we live 10 miles away from each other in the middle of the desert. Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, and Scottsdale are all huge suburbs.

It's typical. Building lots are small because no one wants to be watering the desert. Builders are required to include parks in their designs for the developments.
Note the map scale in the corner. 50 ft. per inch.
Seeing this image gives me terrible anxiety. I have to go back there (Glendale) for a couple weeks next month to get a new visa so I can come back into China. It's going to be terrible going from an awesome giant city, to- to- THAT. Agh.
