I thank the Lord for your recovery from the more severe condition you might have been rendered.
Yes, I quit before reaching wet brain. My sobriety date is 30 June 2002.
I had my last cigarette (a 70 day habit) on January 14 2003.
I'm an atheist AA member; there are 14 (of 32 members) atheists in my home group. The ONLY condition for AA membership is the desire to stop drinking.
I got sober after a rare moment of alcoholic lucidity.IE "If I don't stop,I'm going to die,or worse". I made a committed decision to stop. I then reached out and accepted help wherever I found it; AA, medication, (to prevent withdrawal seizures, which can be fatal) a month as a rehab outpatient followed by a year in a support group, hypnotherapy, (of limited help) the love and support of my family and my best friend--and my own will power. I have the desire to drink most days, but not the compulsion. If things get bad, I ring or visit my [atheist] AA sponsor or my friend.
I do not thank any higher power, but I thank you for your comments, which I accept as sincere.
