It's really strange for a Jedi to tell an apprentice to "trust their feelings" because Jedi believe that emotionality leads to the dark side.

Only the wrong emotions. No True Jedi™ invests in 'those' emotions.
And we all know Ewan Gordon McGregor is no True Scotsman. Wait, um, never mind.

Really? Because this is the official Jedi code:

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no death, there is the Force.

Contrast this to the Sith Code:

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

It is the Sith way to embrace one's emotions, and there is no room for that in Jedi philosophy.
