This is an example of the nirvana fallacy, that because something is not perfect, it therefore cannot be good. I believe single parents also get tax breaks, as well as other opportunities denied to childless individuals or couples, but I am not familiar with the specifics. That the system doesn't work perfectly is not a valid argument against using the system at all.
