I get the impression that a college education is still highly sought after in the USA, for no other reason than that you "must" get one. It has become an end unto itself for many people (witness the number of successful and highly-paid athletes who make it a point to complete a degree that they are almost guaranteed not to use) and therefore planning beyond it is almost nonexistent. Entering into $20,000 to $200,000 of debt before you even begin a career is not something that should be done as lightly as it seems to be here.

college is also like getting married lots of different girls and lots of different degrees and you pay for em both whether they do you any good or not
