I imagine that sheep or goat fucking was a bigger problem among herders but homosexuality was a normal occurrence among the Greeks. This bullshit has all the earmarks of a little propaganda trying to make the Greeks appear to be on the outs with 'god.' Since the Greeks did not arrive in the region until c 332 BC this gives us a terminus a quo for the earliest advent of this nonsense.
It's in one of Paul's letters (1 or 2 Cor?) that there is a warning that (practising) homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven, but it's in a long list of sins including avarice. Since the sentence is followed by "Such were some of you" it's clear that he thinks there is forgiveness for those who repent. As I mentioned in another thread, some liberal Christians like Bishop Spong think that Paul was repressing homosexual urges in himself.
