@ the OP I think you just have to make the decision yourself and weigh up the risk/reward and pros and cons.

I myself think that the pros of telling the truth are that... well, you're telling the truth and telling the truth is good and honesty is good.

And the cons are all the risks that you worry about like being disapproved of, etc, etc.
