She won't change after telling her off, either. But instead of saying these things to Losty's face and pissing her off again, the aunt will just talk about her behind her back. It's highly unlikely she'll change, though. But most can just be trained to pretend to be a better person, even if they're not.
After reading numerous stories from ex-christians I have found that sometimes a hard approach works. The aunt may not see that she is just using her religion as a lame excuse for bad behavior and just needs someone to point that out to her.
In my experience, pointing things out to religious people has no effect on the way they think and act.
