From what I'm understanding, she's suing as a response to being sued, which kind of makes sense. Her defense could be all kinds of things; the teenagers were being dicks and playing Chicken with her, the teenagers came out of nowhere on the dark road, etc. If she doesn't feel she's at fault for the accident, she sort of has to sue. It's tragic, but it's the nature of the justice system.
